Integrating Trauma-Informed Practices into Dental Hygiene Teaching. This course equips dental hygiene faculty with the knowledge and tools to teach trauma-informed care effectively. Topics include understanding trauma prevalence, adapting communication techniques, modifying clinical routines to minimize retraumatization, and fostering a supportive environment where students learn to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care. Faculty will leave prepared to embed trauma-informed principles throughout the curriculum.

Objectives:

Participants will learn how the software can:

  • Apply trauma-informed communication strategies to classroom and clinical teaching scenarios in order to model patient-centered, sensitivity-based interactions for students.
  • Analyze common clinical situations to identify potential trauma triggers and propose modifications that reduce patient distress while maintaining safe and effective dental hygiene care.
  • Apply and analyze trauma-informed principles when evaluating student–patient interactions, assessing how well students recognize trauma responses and adapt their techniques to support patient autonomy and comfort.
