This lecture provides dental hygiene educators with an in-depth understanding of the properties, types, and applications of local anesthetics in dental practice. Participants will explore the pharmacology, efficacy, and clinical considerations of commonly used injectable anesthetics, including lidocaine, carbocaine (mepivacaine), and articaine. The session will also cover the role and mechanisms of non-injectable numbing agents.
Through a blend of didactic instruction and case-based discussions, educators will learn to guide students in selecting appropriate anesthetic agents based on patient needs, medical history, and procedure requirements.
